Digi-pak and Magazine Advert Research and Planning

Our group are now starting to think about our Digi-pak and Magazine advert to help us think of some ideas we are starting to look at others work and ways to make our ideas more advanced for our final piece. We have been looking at our songs genre and it comes across in many different genres from Rock, Reggae, Acid Jazz. Hip Hop, Funk, Drum-n-Bass, Ska, Punk, Latin and Go-Go. We have to consider the different genres as they have to relate to the Digi-pak and magazine advert in order for us to achieve an good outcome.

Lyrics To The Big Hurt "Low Down Ho"

It is important that each member of the group learns the lyrics as when we shoot are music video we will need to constantly sing and take whole minute takes so it is  vital we know the words.

You would always be the one
To try and keep a brother happy.
Lately maybe I’ve been feeling kind of crappy.
Low down ho.
Yes I admit this shit just makes me sick.
If I come quick she’s out the door.
Man I don’t know.

So why’d you have to be that way?
Hotter than a cigarette and everybody’s smoking.

She leaves me once again I don’t
know why she had to go.
She’s got my CD’s, VCR, TV
and remote control at the pawn store.

So why’d you have to be that way?
Hotter than a cigarette and everybody’s smoking.

So get to stepping woman you’ve got me feeling low.
She’s trifling and scandalous I’ll miss
the loving but she’s stepping on my toes.
Low down ho.

Why’d you have to be that way?
Why’d you have to be that way now?

Low down Ho.

Aphex Twin- Come To Daddy

This video presents itself in a very weird way as the video itself does not relate to the lyrics this shows how music videos do not have to actually relate to the song, this helps us with ideas for our music video without putting the lyrics for actions.

What We Learnt From The Preliminary Excerise

Whilst doing the preliminary exercise we learnt a numerous things such as directing we could now talk to the performing members whilst filming to give them tips as the sound can be edited out. We also learnt to take whole one minute takes constantly after one another to keep the flow going, as it makes it much more simpler and easier to edit from, this will benefit us when filming our real music video.

When editing we have also learnt a new technique in layering this makes editing on the software final cut express, we have also used the pen tool to create a fading in effect on our preliminary task that we can use in our final piece.

Lastly we have fount it easier to sing out loud when filming to get a better effect overall as well as we could direct others when filming by telling them what to do as when editing the sound gets removed. This has helped us a lot by guiding others whilst filming.

All of this techniques have benefit my group and will be using these in our up coming music video.

Preliminary Task

This is our final version of our preliminary task that we have completed over the course of the last few weeks.

Other Media Groups

When looking at our song choice on youtube, we noticed another media project have also chosen the same song choice. This benefits us as we can look at what other ideas different media groups have used to gain more advanced ideas and construct other brief ideas into our own.

Found A Band! :)

We are currently emailing the '!The Big Hurt!' We have decided on this group as it has a good beat and a broad subject on what we can do to make the best of our music video. We have decided on the song Low Down Ho as it is a snappy and upbeat song so we have many ideas on what we can perform to achieve the best.

Unsigned.com

Just signed up to unsigned.com and created a fan account! We are now currently looking for a piece of music.

Jamie Thraves

Recently we have studied the work of Jamie Thraves, a British film and Music Director who is responsible for the production of Coldplay's ' The scientist ' and Radiohead's 'Hurt videos.  He has produced both of these world renound videos in three days and under the budget of £200,000.
 Thraves is of importance because he will provide an insight into what it takes to establish a music video of high quality.

Preliminary Excerise

In our Preliminary task we was given Elton John's ' Dont go Breaking My Heart.' My group consists of myself, Liam Coughlan, Charlie Brien and Georgie Cameron. We decided to take on two main characters which me and Liam took the lyrics of Kiki D and Elton John. We taped the footage in school with taking full one minute shots constantly to we got the right shots needed. We then later edited our clips on the imac using the software 'Final cut express.'

The Brief!

The task is to produce;

  • A music promo Video
  • up 5 minutes
  • Either working on your own or in a group up to 4 members
Also need to produce;

  • A 'digipak' (cover only) for its release on CD
  • A magazine advertisement for the 'digipak'
In addition to the music video I also have to produce;
  • A critical evaluation
